Ocean Month

Action: National Ocean Month/From Creation Justice Ministries

June 1 marked the start of Ocean Month, a time when we step back to appreciate God’s marine creation and take action to protect it.  When we think of God’s creation, it is easy to imagine forests and other green spaces we spend more time in, but the ocean doesn’t always come to mind. This month, let’s spend some time meditating on the mystery and majestic creation that is the Ocean and all that God created within it.

Prayer for Our Oceans

Gracious God, you love the world you created in all its wild, beautiful, and ever-evolving diversity. We know, as the Psalmist says, that “The Earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it” .  Amid so many assaults to the web of life, help us to cherish what the Psalmist calls “the great and wide sea with its living things too many to number, / creatures both small and great” (. Help us, we pray, to protect our magnificent ocean as a precious, unique, and fragile part of the “great and wide sea” that ultimately belongs to you, our loving God.  Amen.
