These families, even if they live on the other side of the world, are our neighbors and Jesus asks us to love our neighbor as we do ourselves. When I buy Fair Trade chocolate and coffee, tea, or other products, I am contributing to a healthy life for my “neighbor”.

This letter was sent out to St. Paul’s Families exactly 17 months ago, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since today is the first day of school for many children in San Diego and in anticipation of our own program launch on September 12, I would like to remind parents to give themselves grace. Have you ever heard the phrase, you are what you eat? This is important when we think about Jesus in this sense. If we eat of the bread of life, of Jesus; if that helps form, create, and grow our very human body, we will inherently be changed by that. We will learn and digest his actions and who he is. This is especially true on Sundays when we take communion and take time to rest and restore our souls for the next week in the world.
