Seeds From COP 30

Simpler Living: Creation Care Ministry

There was much information to absorb from TEC’s “Climate Action and Beyond COP30″ UN Climate Conference of the Parties, COP 30 that hopefully you’ll click on the link below for a fuller picture. While the Conference was purported to produce “mixed reviews at best,” hope prevailed and some advances were made. Here are a few takeaways:

  • Signing of the Just Transition Mechanism, meant to guide how the transition to green energy and green economies through upholding justice nationally, workers rights, and international finance flows. It highlights the need to consult with indigenous communities.”
  • The Conference offered “an honest reflection of where we are globally [climate justice and progress].”
  • There was “joy and hope, even in lament.”
  • “The TFFF [Tropical Forest Forever Facility] will pays countries annually for keeping their forest standing. This is different from carbon offsets and how we have traditionally talked about tropical
  • forests, preservation and conservation….For the first time in history, countries of the Global South will take a leading role in a forest agenda.”

Gracious God, we praise you in your wisdom and love for all of Creation, gracing our Earth with your wondrous works. May those who attended COP30 – and all of us – go forth with a commitment to increase our prayers, expand our knowledge and take faith-filled actions to work for justice for your people and the planet.

Amen.
