The family ministry has been a space where our kids have learned about the word of Christ and has also been a door for my husband and I to engage in the broader church life. I know that this is also true for other parents in the family ministry, as some of us are now serving in other ministries, like the Peace and Justice ministry, the Simpler Living ministry, the Evangelism ministry, and a couple of us are now Chapter members. This tells you a lot about how important it is to support and lift this ministry.
With the departure of Maya, I want to let the congregation know that the family ministry will not be affected by the changes that are coming up. Maya’s efforts have worked to strengthen the ministry, and though she will be dearly missed, we will work hard to keep upholding the strength and mission of this ministry. A couple of weeks ago Maya, Kathleen and I met to go over the primary details of managing the ministry through the hiring process. I, along with the support of other moms in the ministry, will be working as a team to ensure that our ministry remains strong. We believe that investing in children is the most strategic way to impact the kingdom of God. A wise man once said “Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work.”
Kathleen will set up a committee to kick off the search for the family ministry hiring. We will meet, review the job description and discuss what the next steps will be. If you are interested in being part of this please reach out to Kathleen, Richard, or myself. I’m looking forward to working with everyone in the congregation that has offered support through this process. Please keep us in your prayers.
Jesus says, “Let the little children come to me” (Mark 10:14). He also warns us not to despise, disregard, hinder or cause children to stumble (Matthew 18:6, 19:14).
