“Teach Your Children Well” Anti-Bullying Film screened at SPC

On May 14 at 7.30pm:

St. Paul’s Cathedral honors International Day Against Homophobia with a FREE showing of “Teach Your Children Well” followed by a panel discussion with the film makers and local anti-bullying activists.

St. Paul’s Cathedral in partnership with GLSEN, St. Paul’s Foundation, Integrity Circle and other San Diego faith communities and school districts, will mark this important week with a free showing of the anti-bullying documentary “Teach Your Children Well”. A champagne reception with the filmmakers will precede the film at 7.30 p.m. followed by a panel discussion.

Every school day thousands of young people who identify as either lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans-gender face harassment, bullying, and even violence for simply being who they are. “Teach Your Children Well” is a documentary short (39 min) narrated by Emmy Award winning actress and comedienne, Lily Tomlin. The film explores the often tragic effects of homophobia, bullying, and school violence against L-G-B-T young people. It tells its story through interviews with parents, teachers, students, and professionals from various gay and lesbian service organizations.

Following the film, will be a preview of the film “Call me Kuchu” (queer in Ugandan slang) about the life of Ugandan murdered activist David Kato and the impact of global homophobia and LGBT violence.

The panel discussion will feature:
Robin Voss – Executive Producer of “Teach Your Children Well” and co-creator of the acclaimed documentary, “For the Bible Tells Me So”.
Gary Takesian – Director of “Teach Your Children Well”
The Rev. Canon Albert Ogle – President of the St. Paul’s Foundation for International Reconciliation based at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Colin Pearce – Co-Chair of GLSEN of San Diego (Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network).

Mon, 05/14/2012 – 7:30pm – 8:30pm
