The Chapter of St. Paul’s is analogous to the board of directors and is comprised of lay leaders who are responsible for the management of the Cathedral’s finances and buildings and grounds. Each month, Carol Walsh, Chapter member and People’s Warden, summarizes the “highlights” of the Chapter’s monthly meetings. Here are some notes from the meeting of 20 Nov 2009.
We hope that you’ve noticed the new blinds in the Guild Room, as well as outside improvements including fresh paint and beautiful photographs. These items have been paid for by generous members and friends of our parish through gifts and bequests. The donors have requested that these particular gifts and bequests be designated for specific items, or for Buildings and Grounds improvements generally. We are fortunate to have a cheery, inviting campus.
It is important to note that the cost of the improvements described above does not impact our Operating Fund and were made possibly only by the generous special gifts and/or bequests from parishioners over and above their monthly pledge.
The Cathedral budget through September was discussed. Pledge income is generally at goal, and expenses are slightly under budget.
Sub-Dean Allisyn Thomas reported that St. Paul’s continues to grow in both church attendance and number of baptisms.
Sam Ward presented the Endowment Board’s Semi-Annual Report and offered some good news on the slow recovery of our funds as the overall market recovers.
Chris Harris indicated that the Stewardship Receptions promise to be well-attended, and we’re anticipating a modest increase in our pledge base for next year.
Dean Richardson discussed the 2010 budget with Chapter, noting the particular challenges we will be facing, most notably the loss of our apartment income and the need to bring the cost of our Associate for Children, Youth and Family into the budget in 2010 (the position was previously funded through a generous bequest).
