Pausing for Nature in Art

Simpler Living Creation Care Ministry

St. Paul’s Cathedral’s very own Virginia Howlett, artist extraordinaire, was commissioned by Scripps to create these meditative panels, “44 San Diego Skies,” in La Jolla. Virginia’s work exemplifies how artistic expression of nature contributes to holistic care in medicine. This installation opened recently, and can be experienced by the general public: Walk into main entrance of the hospital (Scripps Memorial La Jolla), register as a visitor at the kiosks and get a badge. Then look for Elevator A – straight ahead, then left and down a long hall. Take Elevator A to floor 6, and there it is!

The work is a lovely reminder of the importance of nature in our lives, whether by witnessing it through art or al fresco.

If you’re looking for another way to care for God’s good creation this weekend, consider registering for San Diego 350’s People and Planet Over Profit Town Hall in National City this Saturday, 6/27 from 12 – 2:30. Click here for details.
