Letter From Richard: Ready, Serve, Grow!

Hello St. Paul’s and friends,

I’m Rev. Richard Hogue, Associate for Congregational Life here at St. Paul’s Cathedral in San Diego, and it is my pleasure to bring you this week’s Associates Letter.

You no doubt recall that we are in the middle our fall pledge campaign, and I’m thrilled to report that as of my recording this, we are just shy of $430k of our $900k goal. Thank you to everyone who’s already pledged and for those of you considering it. To make ministry happen it requires ministers and money, and you all make St. Paul’s the wonderful place that it is through your ministry and monetary gifts.

To say thank you and show what your pledges accomplish, we’re throwing a festive evening on Friday, November 4th, at 5 pm in the Guild Room, which we’ve named “Ready, Serve, Grow!” It will be a concert with heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages, with some brief reflections on the vibrancy of St. Paul’s and our campus that continues to grow in its service to the wider community. Voices of Our City Choir and the barbershop quartet “Relative Pitch” will grace us with musical offerings, and it will be a bit of a ballyhoo for all things St. Paul’s.

Please be sure to register for this event by clicking here. I am so looking forward to socializing and hearing the choirs, and I encourage you to bring friends or family who enjoy lively occasions, because this will be very lively, complete with party favors. If you want to see the liveliness of St. Paul’s in action, then don’t miss out on being with us on Friday, November 4th, at 5 pm.

Lastly, on a personal note, I want give thanks for coming up on a year of being with you all here at our beloved cathedral. When I started a year ago in November, all I knew was that I was excited to get back into urban ministry and to begin working with Dean Penny and other leaders here. Now I know that this people and a place truly desire to be a cathedral for the city, and we’ll have many opportunities to live into that role and help shape our future together in the years ahead. It is my privilege to serve with you, and I look forward to many, many more years of ministry with all of you. Glory to God in the highest!

I’m Rev. Richard, and I’ll see you Sunday.
