The Alternative Gift Expo will take place Sunday, December 10, 9am – 2pm, in the Great Hall.
What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.
(Christina Rossetti, 1872)
The past several years have seen huge local and world changes- wars, political disturbances, financial struggles, world-wide hunger, immigration crisis, lack of justice and on it goes…
As a student of Christ, what can I do? I feel so small. Yet when a friend or stranger looks at me with empathy or gives a hug, I feel better. Is there a way our holiday gift giving may reflect the work of the Holy Spirit within us and make a difference?
Our Alternative Gift Expo marketplace on December 10 is an opportunity to let our hearts respond to the world pain. Here is an example:
Lumily has been a familiar presence at the Alternative Gift Expo at St. Paul’s over the years. Offering small personal items and jewelry, Lumley’s mission is to offer handcrafted, unique products that not only embody style but also tell a story of empowerment and cultural heritage all over the world. Lumily is a beacon for ethical, fair-trade fashion, passionately connecting consumers with a global network of skilled artisans.
Nonviolent Peaceforce– Stop by our table and learn more about the Nonviolent Peaceforce that sustains an unarmed, paid civilian protection force that fosters dialogue among parties in conflict and provides a protective presence for threatened civilians throughout the world.
Dr. Bronner’s is one of the worlds highest rated B-Corps and a long time support and advocate for fair trade practices. They are the top seller of organic soaps in North America and have been around for 75 years! Their products are certified by Fair for Life and support women farmers around the world.
And many other opportunities to purchase handcrafted gifts or make donations that let you talk about why you support fair trade, humanitarian causes, and are following the Holy Spirit in your celebration of the holidays.
Seasonal recorder music will be performed in the late morning.
A soup and bread lunch will be offered for a $3.50 donation from 11am – 1 pm.
