Dean’s Letter: Summer Socials

Hello St. Paul’s,

Arriving at the summer season this year merits a great big sigh of relief. We have moved into the new building; we are well on the way to completing the Chancel work; the COVID pandemic, while it continues to be a factor, no longer feels as terrifying as it did two years ago. Summer is traditionally a quiet time for the church, as we move into the long green season and people take well-deserved vacations.

Of course, St. Paul’s continues to be a vibrant community in the summer. Sunday services continue and we relish the opportunity to welcome visitors from all over the globe. In less than two weeks we will welcome the city leadership to Light Up the Cathedral for Pride, followed by our participation in the Pride parade and a special celebration on Pride Sunday with a guest preacher from Virginia.

Summer is a great time for a party, and we are bringing back the Summer Socials this year, with four events before Labor Day, each one in a parishioner’s back yard, and each one in a different part of town: on July 23 we will be in North County, on July 30 in East County, on August 13 in a more central location and on August 20 in the University City area. I very much hope that you will sign up for one of these outdoor fellowship events: they are an opportunity to reconnect and to make new friends with some of the people who have joined our community over the last couple of years. There is no agenda: just a chance to be together and enjoy the company of your cathedral family.

Look for sign-up sheets for the socials at church on Sunday, or find the link to sign up online; it should be in the weekly email.

I look forward to these fellowship events and to all the blessings of summertime.

See you on Sunday!

Your sister in Christ,
Penny
