Community Organizing 101

Dear Friends in Christ,

I’d like to invite you join me for Community Organizing 101, a three-course Wednesday night series this May 13, 20, and 27 that will take place at St. John’s Church at 760 1st Ave in Chula Vista from 7-8:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served and there is no cost to attend.

You may not be too familiar with term “community organizing.” It’s an approach to social change that begins with individual conversations between parishioners that surface common concerns that an organizer can help transform into effective action to improve the lives of ordinary people in our nearby neighborhoods. It’s a powerful and personally transformative way to put our faith into practice.

I’m hoping this offering, which will be co-taught by Dinora Reyna, an organizer with the San Diego Organizing Project, will pique your curiosity around the role of the church within our society, particularly as it relates to our unique call to proclaim and live out the justice- and life-bearing good news of Christ to a world that needs our help.

I hope to see some of you in Chula Vista this May starting this coming Wednesday!

Peace,

Colin

The Rev Colin Mathewson

P.S. This series is sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego’s School for Ministry.
