Sacred Ground In Action Initiative
On our Cathedral website and in our Sunday prayer guides, St Paul’s Land Acknowledgment calls on our faith community to “commit to the vital work of educating ourselves, increasing community awareness, and promoting reconciliation with our Indigenous neighbors.” Reconciliation with our neighbors begins with educating ourselves followed by a desire to increase our and our community’s awareness.
This Saturday (August 8), the Bonita Museum at 4355 Bonita Road in Bonita will hold an International Day of the World’s Indigenous People celebration of culture and heritage from 11 am to 5 pm. With cultural exhibitions and performances, workshops, information booths, and food vendors, this free event offers an opportunity to “celebrate culture, honor heritage, and empower Indigenous futures.”
Also, watch this insightful Crossroads: America at 250 PBS News Hour segment highlighting the 150 year Battle of Little Bighorn commemoration and how it impacted government policy on Indigenous people, both then and to this very day.
