Extractive Disregard For Sacred Sites

Simpler Living Creation Care Ministry:

What would we do if our sacred Cathedral were threatened with obliteration? On March 1, 2025 a panel of eleven judges from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the federal government can transfer the sacred site of Oak Flat in the Tonto National Forest in Arizona to Resolution Copper, a foreign-owned mining company. The company has a practice of violating indigenous rights and environmental damage. The company has permission to turn the site into a massive mining crater – more than a mile into the ground – and end Apache religious practices forever.  To learn more about the Apache Stronghold struggle and sacred site watch this video on YouTube that was produced before the ruling. Also consider registering for a March 18 hybrid (virtual and live) forum from 6pm – 7:30 pm, Click Here.

O merciful Creator, your hand is open wide to satisfy the needs of every living creature: Make us always thankful for your loving providence; and grant that we, remembering the account that we must one day give, may be faithful stewards of your good gifts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
