Hello St. Paul’s,
This weekend we will hold our annual parish meeting, after a festive lunch on Sunday. This is an important moment in our life every year, but especially this year, as we will be electing new Chapter members who will be participating in the transition between deans. This Chapter class will likely see the whole transition through, from my departure at the end of May, to the selection and support of an interim Dean (likely recommended by the Bishop), to appointing a Dean Calling Committee, to the various decisions that have to be made by Chapter in the absence of a seated Dean, to the final decision of whom to call as the new Dean, to that individual’s arrival and institution, probably some time in 2028. So it’s an unusually important election, and I encourage you to attend and vote if you possibly can.
We have seven strong candidates for four positions. In any given year a vacancy may arise on Chapter, in which case one of the three people not elected on Sunday may be called on to fill the vacancy. I am deeply grateful for all those who stand for election, knowing that the options are: to be elected and take on a significant leadership role in the church; or not to be elected and live with that disappointment.
Please take a moment to review the candidate nominations on the Annual Meeting page of the website, so that you will be prepared for the election.
The annual meeting isn’t just about business, as important as that business may be: we break bread together; we celebrate and thank those who have worked hard over the last year; and we strengthen our bonds as we look ahead to 2026. If you stay to the end of the meeting, you will learn who will be awarded the Robinson Cross for extraordinary service to the Cathedral; this is always a joyful moment for our community.
I am looking forward to chairing the meeting on Sunday. See you there!
Your sister in Christ,
Penny
