A Letter From Kate Gould

Dear Beloved St. Paul’s Community,

I came to St. Paul’s not quite two years ago with a radiant theology developed over a lifetime as a spiritual refugee,  a hard-won readiness to question, and a hope to push this small slice of the church to evolve, stretch, and create to meet the moment of not just difficult times, but also to reach out to those with a tumultuous skepticism that is paired with a deep desire for community. What an honor it has been to get to know our beautiful families and to be with the children to help them make connections to grow their budding spirituality. It truly has been an honor to serve you all and I thank you for welcoming me into your community.

In John 5:1-9 Jesus heals a man on the Sabbath. Remember, when you put aside the rules to do what is right and/or loving, you are in good company.

May peace and joy find you all,

Kate

  1. That was something of an enigmatic last line. Sound Christian theology/ethics, but wonder what makes it relevant upon the occasion of Kate leaving? Perhaps somebody can clue in those of us who don’t appreciate the relevance in Kate’s reference of Jesus healing the blind man on the Sabbath in violation of narrow, legalistic stricture. Was her reference a somewhat thinly veiled cry for help?
