As people of faith we are called to move from our comfort zones to take action for justice. GreenFaith, a multi-faith climate and environmental movement endorsed by Simpler Living and the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice, has issued a groundbreaking report calling on the world’s largest banks to phase out their finance for coal, oil and gas, while upscaling their support for renewable energy. Sacred Planet, Stained Profits provides background for the Summer of Heat, a series of actions to pressure Citibank, the world’s largest financier of fossil fuels post-Paris Climate Agreement. The report makes the case for why religious institutions must pressure banks to phase out their financing for fossil fuels while upscaling climate solutions. Encouraging banks to do the right thing is one way that individual’s can have a positive impact on the climate crisis.
