Your donations of furniture, household items, and more are urgently needed for refugee families entering San Diego. Please contact Joan Reese at jmreese@gmail.com to learn more, request a list of needed items, or receive progress updates.
As we observe this Advent season of prayerful anticipation, families displaced by conflict and climate change who have spent years in refugee camps thousands of miles away are anxiously awaiting their journey to a new life in San Diego. We are called to Welcome the Stranger, and St. Paul’s Cathedral is collaborating to assist RefugeeNet, which will for the first time have the responsibility of resettling several refugee families in San Diego beginning in December through mid-January under a U.S. Dept. of State program. Our help is needed now to provide what is needed to set up a basic household. We are seeking donations of used and new furniture, kitchen and other household items, plus cleaning and personal care supplies. Appropriate clothing will be needed as well. Cash donations are also very welcome! Later, for those who would like to continue involvement, there will be opportunities to offer guidance, support, and friendship as these families adjust to their new environment; to help with language, job searches, school enrollment, and cultural integration; to assist with transportation, translation, and more!
