Confirmation
Confirmation, a spiritual act, is the rite in which an Episcopalian expresses a mature commitment to Christ, and receives strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer, anointing, and the laying on of hands by a bishop. Since many have become Christian through infant baptism, Confirmation is an opportunity for an individual to make a conscious spiritual affirmation. It is generally expected of all adult, baptized members of the congregation at some time.
People who have already been confirmed in a non-Episcopal Christian church may elect to be received in this ceremony presided over by a bishop. Contact The Reverend Canon Brooks Mason, masonb@stpaulcathedral.org, 619-298-7261 x325 for more information.
The cathedral has adult baptism and confirmation classes each fall and spring, called, “What is an Episcopalian?” No commitment is needed to take the classes. For more information, view our calendar or send us an email.
