Pledge Pledge Back to St.Paul's

Where to Start

While not intended as an exhaustive list, here are some ideas for how and where you might start when considering your pledge this year. For more information or questions, please contact Chris Harris at our Office of Membership and Development at (619) 298-7261 (x334).

1. Prayer.
Take some to time to ask for God’s help to guide you in this decision. Hold this question close to your heart and return to it from time to time. Consider including it in your daily or weekly prayers as you think about your financial commitment for the coming year. (Click here for some helpful comments from our Stewardship Chaplain as well as a suggested prayer.)

2. Consider the many blessings in your life.
Recalling that all things are gifts from God, reflect on the many blessings in your life – your friends, your family, our beautiful community, your spouse or partner, the love of God, your adoring pets. Remember the less fortunate and impoverished in our community and around the world who struggle each day for food and shelter. Mindful of all the ways in which we are blessed – many of which we too often take for granted – ask yourself if you are content with how you are using your gifts.

3. Ask why St. Paul’s is special to you.
Each of us has come to call St. Paul’s our spiritual home for different reasons. For many, it’s our commitment to the full inclusion of all of God’s children. For some of us, it’s the beautiful liturgy and angelic music. Still others are drawn to the Cathedral’s willingness to speak out on social justice and peace issues, our growing children’s program, the exceptional educational opportunities – the list goes on and on. As you think about St. Paul’s, remember that it is through your pledge that the Cathedral is able to maintain its mission and support its many ministries.

4. Challenge yourself!
As you consider the amount of your pledge, ask if the figure reflects your values and priorities. Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” God is constantly calling us to move closer in relationship with Him and our neighbors. Does your pledge move you closer to God? Many have noted the life-changing impact that a simple pledge can have – and how little they missed the money – as they received so much more in return. This year, why not try “shocking yourself” with your generosity and then see where this moves you.
